Breaking news…influential film critic Roger Ebert dies at 70

Just hearing that world-renowned film critic and historian Roger Ebert, has left us way too soon at the age of 70. Ebert was very likely the most recognizable movie critic in the world over the last quarter of a century, at the very least. I always found his appreciation of the historical aspect of cinema more cogent than his actual critiques. And when paired with the late Gene Siskel on television for many years straight into the late 1990’s, it can be said that he and their “At the Movies” show entered into straight-out iconography. So saddened by the loss of such a maverick of the industry. Many of you probably are already aware that Ebert had suffered some serious health issues for quite a few years. Rest in peace, Roger.

  1. Decided to showcase a clip of Ebert and his old partner Siskel, debating over Cronenberg’s “Crash”. Roger gets it mostly right on this one, as he laces into Gene for missing the point. Enjoy. ML
