David Cronenberg lovers rejoice! Julianne Moore fanatics too! You can read all about the Cannes Palme d’Or winner, and the takers of the various other prizes, elsewhere—but here you’re going to hear about “Maps to the Stars” only—and Moore’s Best Actress prize. Cronenberg’s latest is expected to arrive in the U.S. this fall, and with its L.A. location work, it is the first motion picture that DC has shot in the States. Joining Ms. Moore are Robert Pattinson and Sarah Gadon—popping over from David’s 2012 release, “Cosmopolis”. Also, on board are John Cusack, Mia Wasikowska—and Carrie Fisher as herself. Working from a screenplay by Bruce Wagner, Cronenberg’s newest movie is his 19th official feature(I begin with 1975’s “Shivers” btw, and discount 1969’s “Stereo” and 1970’s “Crimes of the Future”—which are mostly silent and roughly an hour-long). I’ve long felt that Julianne and David would be a perfect artistic fit. How exciting to learn that it appears that now has been confirmed a certainty! Hopefully an official North American release date will follow on the heels of this big win for Moore and “Maps to the Stars” itself. Congratulations Julianne and David!
