I have two IMAX 3D tickets for “Avengers: Age of Ultron” for Friday afternoon. My ten-year-old is stoked, and honestly…so am I. Some marginal reviews I’m reading are giving me pause, but it is the “Golden Age” of superhero movies, and I’m glad to be able to bond with my oldest for these adventures. Soon enough, we’ll be bringing his little brother along too. Now, we all pretty much expect the sequel to 2012’s “The Avengers” to shatter a whole mess of box office records, right? But what I’m currently intrigued by, is the prospect of Joss Whedon’s behemoth cracking a half a billion, after its opening North American weekend. In fact, some simple arithmetic seems to make it a no-brainer. Here’s the thing, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” has already garnered 201 million dollars, as it’s opened in a bunch of countries overseas. Now, it’s expected to at least match the 2012 original’s 207 million dollar North American weekend tally…bringing the haul to 408 million minimum. Add another 90 or so for the 2nd overseas weekend…well, these are just the kind of things I think about sometimes. Anyway, 39 dollars and 38 cents of that cash is coming from me, and I’m gladly anteing up for Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Quicksilver, War Machine, Falcon and the Scarlet Witch.
